Water restriction in cowpea plants [Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.]: Metabolic changes and tolerance induction

چکیده

ABSTRACT Global climate change tends to intensify water unavailability, especially in semi-arid regions, directly impacting agricultural production. Cowpea is one of the crops with great socio-economic importance Brazilian region, cultivated mainly under rainfed farming and considered moderately tolerant restriction. This species has physiological biochemical mechanisms adaptation these stress factors, but there still no clear vision how responses can not only allow survival, also ensure yield advances field. Besides acclimation mechanisms, exogenous application abiotic (salicylic acid, silicon, proline, methionine, potassium nitrate) biotic (rhizobacteria) elicitors promising mitigating effects The present literature review discusses cowpea some cultivation techniques, elicitors, which contribute maintaining crop different scenarios. an alternative way increase sustainability production regions. However, use eliciting substances needs be carefully explored, given difficulties caused by genotypic edaphoclimatic variability field conditions.

Recent advances in cowpea [Vigna unguiculata (L

After decades of research on cowpea, significant amount of omics datasets are available and useful in understanding the genetic relationship between Vigna unguiculata ssp. unguiculata and other species belonging to the same genus as well as its genetic variation. Besides, the development of genetic map allowed the chromosome localization of molecular markers associated with disease resistance, ...

Assessing genotypic variability of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata [L.] Walp.) to current and projected ultraviolet-B radiation.

The current and projected terrestrial ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation affects growth and reproductive potential of many crops. Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata [L.] Walp.), mostly grown in tropical and sub-tropical regions may already be experiencing critical doses of UV-B radiation due to a thinner ozone column in those regions. Better understanding of genotypic variability to UV-B radiation is a prer...

Genetic Diversity and Population Structure of Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L. Walp)

The genetic diversity of cowpea was analyzed, and the population structure was estimated in a diverse set of 768 cultivated cowpea genotypes from the USDA GRIN cowpea collection, originally collected from 56 countries. Genotyping by sequencing was used to discover single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) in cowpea and the identified SNP alleles were used to estimate the level of genetic diversity, ...

Isolation and Characterization of Four Isoinhibitors from Cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) Seeds

Four isoinhibitors of trypsin have been isolated from the cowpea, Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp., in a highly purified state, as indicated by Urea-SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, equilibrium chromatography, and amino acid analysis. The amino acid composition was characterized by the absence of free -SH groups, high half-cysteine, and the absence of tryptophan and methionine in isoinhibito...
